Golden Goose Size Guide: Should You Size Down?
It is THE question before buying your first pair: do Golden Goose run large? The short answer: yes, most models fit large, and most customers go down a size. But the rule varies depending on the model and the shape of your foot — here is the complete guide to getting it right first time, whether new or pre-owned.

The general rule: one size down
Golden Goose sizes on an Italian (IT/EU) size base with a generous last: a wide forefoot and a deep fit. For most models, take one size below your usual sneaker size. For example: if you wear a 42 in classic sneakers, a 41 in Golden Goose will generally be the right choice.
Important exception: if you have wide or broad feet, stick to your usual size — the generous width of the last will work in your favour.
Model by model: how each one fits
Superstar: one size down
The brand's star model — presented in our guide to iconic Golden Goose models — fits distinctly large. Almost all wearers go down one size. Very narrow feet? Some even go down a size and a half when it is available.
Ball Star: one size down
Same logic as the Superstar, with a very similar fit. One size down for the vast majority.
Mid Star and Hi Star: one size down, unless you have wide feet
The high-top versions follow the same base, but the more enveloping upper can pinch wide feet — in that case, stick to your usual size.
Running Sole and Dad-Star: broadly true to size
The more technical running silhouettes fit more snugly: most wearers keep their usual size.
Slide and Purestar: one size down
Back to the brand's general rule.
Women, men: the same logic
The women's and men's ranges follow the same trend — the differences lie in the colourways and last widths, detailed in our comparison Golden Goose women vs men. Worth noting: many women wear models from the men's range (and vice versa), simply converting the size.
Pre-owned pairs: measurements first
On a pair that has already been worn, two factors come into play: the leather has softened and the insole may be slightly compressed — so a broken-in pair fits slightly larger than a new pair in the same size. The reliable reflex: ask for the insole length in centimetres and compare it with that of a pair that fits you. At NB08, we check the actual fit condition and every pair goes through our authentication process, a key point for such a widely copied brand — always check the details in our guide to recognising a genuine pair of Golden Goose.
Deliberate wear does not change the size
A useful reminder: the distressed look of Golden Goose is a treatment applied in the workshop, not real wear — that is the whole story of the brand, told in our article on the history of Golden Goose and in why they are sold already worn. A new 'distressed' pair fits like a new pair: do not expect any extra softening because of the worn look.
In summary
Superstar, Ball Star, Mid Star, Hi Star, Slide: one size below your usual size. Running Sole and Dad-Star: your usual size. Wide feet: your usual size across the board. And for pre-owned pairs, rely on the insole length rather than the label.
