Recognising Genuine Colmar: An Authentication Guide
A historic Italian alpine brand, Colmar is less counterfeited than the stars of outerwear — but its down jackets are the subject of copies and imitations of very variable quality. Here is how to check a piece before you buy.
At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. The pointers are set out below.
Why check the authenticity of a Colmar piece?
Recent Colmar down jackets sell well on the pre-owned market; a few checks on the labels and finishing help you avoid unpleasant surprises.
The logo and labels

The Colmar logo (a patch or embroidery, often on the sleeve or chest) is crisp, with sharp edges, and firmly attached. The inside labels — brand, composition, care — are detailed and multilingual, with a product code: the standard of a serious industrial house, and hard to imitate properly.
Fill and materials
The down is even and lofty, the baffles of the down jacket regular, the technical fabrics dense with a clean drape. Fill compacted into clumps or feathers poking through: a bad sign (a copy or a worn piece).
Zips and finishing
Smooth-running zips with marked pullers, firm press studs, neat hems and elastic, a lining fitted without creases. The overall regularity is what sets it apart from imitations.
Price and seller: the warning signs
A recent Colmar down jacket at a cut price with no explanation should raise questions; ask for photos of the inside labels.
