Recognising Genuine Dior: An Authentication Guide
Leather goods, B23 sneakers, ready-to-wear: Dior is one of the most counterfeited houses, with copies ranging from crude to highly sophisticated. Here is the method for checking a Dior piece before you buy.
At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. The decisive points are set out below.
Why check the authenticity of a Dior piece?
Dior Oblique canvas and the CD logo are reproduced on an industrial scale. On small leather goods — widely traded pre-owned — checking the markings is essential.
The 'Christian Dior' markings

The 'Christian Dior PARIS' stamp (with 'Made in Italy/Spain') is fine, even and perfectly centred; pieces carry a cleanly stamped date code (letters + digits) whose format must be consistent with the age of the piece. A thick or wavy stamp or a fanciful code: a copy.
Oblique canvas, leathers and patterns
Oblique canvas is a woven jacquard (not printed): the pattern is crisp on both sides, aligned at the seams, with regular diagonals. The leathers are supple with a consistent grain and the edges are clean. A printed pattern that fades or haphazard pattern matching rules the piece out.
Hardware and finishing
The CD logo and the zips are heavy, with smooth finishes; the zips run perfectly (and are often engraved). Fine, even, parallel stitching throughout. The linings and interiors are assembled without creases.
Price and seller: the warning signs
Dior holds its value very well: a rock-bottom price almost always hides a counterfeit. Insist on macro photos of the markings and the date code, plus the provenance.
