Recognising Genuine Saint Laurent: An Authentication Guide
From card holders to hoodies, Saint Laurent is copied on a massive scale — the Cassandre monogram (interlocking YSL) is among the most reproduced logos in luxury. Here are the checkpoints for buying a piece from the Parisian house with complete confidence.
At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. The method is set out below.
Why check the authenticity of a Saint Laurent piece?
Small leather goods (card holders, wallets) are particularly targeted: compact, in high demand, easy to ship — the core of the counterfeiters' business.
The Cassandre and markings

The interlocking YSL follows precise proportions (the Y overlaps the S, which overlaps the L), in heavy metal with smooth finishes on leather goods. The 'SAINT LAURENT PARIS' marking inside is stamped or gilded in fine, perfectly aligned typography, accompanied by an evenly stamped serial number.
Leathers and grain
The emblematic grain de poudre (textured leather) is even, firm and matt; the edges are cleanly painted, the stitching fine and parallel. An irregular or shiny grain or a smudged edge is the mark of a copy.
Ready-to-wear: labels and screen prints
Neck labels are woven and fine, with exact typography; composition labels carry complete product codes. Screen prints (hoodies, T-shirts) are dense and precise. The house's drape and rock-slim cut are not found in copies.
Price and seller: the warning signs
New SLP small leather goods at half price are a classic trap. Insist on macro photos of the serial number and markings.
