Recognising Genuine Stüssy: An Authentication Guide
The ultimate streetwear pioneer, Stüssy is enjoying a second youth — along with a massive return of counterfeits of its calligraphic signature. Here is how to recognise a genuine piece from the Californian label.
At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. Here are the key points.
Why check the authenticity of a Stüssy piece?
The current hype (8-ball, Basic Stock, collabs) has revived the copies: counterfeit T-shirts and hoodies are flooding resale platforms.
The calligraphic signature

The Stüssy logo reproduces Shawn Stussy's signature: a fluid stroke, naturally varying thickness, proportions that stay constant from one piece to the next. Copies produce a hesitant stroke, too thick or with slightly distorted letters — compare with an official piece in macro.
Labels and markings
A woven neck label (black or white depending on the line) with crisp typography, and a composition label with country of manufacture and code. The inside prints on recent T-shirts are clean. A sloppy label rules the piece out.
Materials and screen prints
Thick cottons (Stüssy tees are dense), heavy fleece, thick screen prints that hold up in the wash, even embroidery. A thin jersey with a faded print is not up to the label's standard.
Price and seller: the warning signs
Sought-after drops do not get sold off cheap. Ask for macro photos of the logo and labels, and check that the model officially exists.
