Jacquemus Size Guide: Does It Run Large or Small?

A Jacquemus T-shirt that swamps you, a hoodie that pinches at the shoulders, a bucket hat that is too tight: the question of size comes up with every piece, because Jacquemus does not size the same way across its lines. A single 'take your usual size' guide is not enough. Here are the guidelines we apply in the boutique, piece by piece.

The short answer

On the jersey basics — T-shirts and hoodies — Jacquemus sizing is true to size to slightly roomy: your usual size gives a straight fit, the size below a closer fit. On knitwear and shirts, the cut is more fitted: stick to your size. On accessories, it all comes down to the centimetre.

Understanding Jacquemus's two sizing systems

The brand uses two size charts. Jersey pieces (the Gros Grain line, Logo T-shirts, hoodies) are labelled in letters, from XS to XXXL. The 'collection' ready-to-wear (shirts, trousers, fine knits, runway pieces) is labelled in French sizes: 44 to 54 for men, 34 to 44 for women. To convert from one to the other, count a men's 48 as an M and a women's 38 as an S. This detail matters when buying pre-owned, where you often come across a piece in a 46 or 50 without knowing what it corresponds to.

Gros Grain and Logo T-shirts: the most worn line

The Gros Grain T-shirt is the Jacquemus basic par excellence: heavy cotton jersey, a reinforced crew neck, a small tonal or embroidered logo. The cut is straight, the shoulders slightly dropped, the length generous. In practice: in an M you get a T-shirt that hangs straight without being oversized; if you like a boxy effect, go one size up; if you want it close to the body, one size down will do, and the length stays right.

Thick cotton does not stretch in the wash like a fine jersey: the size you choose is the size you will keep. That is also why the Jacquemus T-shirts we have in stock run from XS to XXXL depending on the colourway: the same piece wears very differently depending on the size you choose.

Gros Grain and Typo hoodies

Jacquemus hoodies have a relaxed cut: heavy fleece, a voluminous hood, a wide kangaroo pocket. The drape is already roomy in your usual size. Going one size up gives a very oversized effect, long sleeves included; most customers who hesitate between two sizes leave with the smaller one. Sizes run from S to XXL on the Gros Grain line.

Knitwear and shirts: more fitted

Jacquemus jumpers and the shirts from the main collection are cut closer to the body than the jersey basics, with set shoulders and long sleeves. Do not size down: your usual 48 or M will already give a clean fit. On a very fine knit or a linen shirt, one size up may even be more comfortable if you have a broad back.

The Artichaut bucket hat and caps: down to the centimetre

The Jacquemus bucket hat (the Artichaut model, or the Le Bob bucket hats) comes in 56, 58 and 60 cm. The 58 matches the most common men's head circumference; the 56 suits most women; the 60 is for larger heads. Measure with a tape measure one centimetre above the ears: the hat should stay on without leaving a mark on the forehead. A bucket hat that is too small will not stretch — it ends up in a drawer.

Bags: no sizes, but a scale

Le Chiquito and Le Bambino have no size, but a scale that is often confusing in photos: the original Chiquito fits in the hand, the Chiquito Moyen takes a phone, and the Grand Chiquito becomes a proper day bag. When buying pre-owned, always check the dimensions in centimetres rather than the model name: the variations look very similar.

New or pre-owned: a point to watch

On a pre-owned Jacquemus piece, the size label does not tell the whole story: a Gros Grain T-shirt that has already been worn keeps its fit, but a hoodie washed hot may have shrunk by half a size. At NB08, every pre-owned piece is measured flat and the measurement appears on the product page when it departs from the standard. We also check authenticity before a piece goes on sale — the method is in our guide to recognising genuine Jacquemus.

In summary

  • Gros Grain and Logo T-shirts: usual size for a straight fit, one size down for a close fit
  • Hoodies: usual size, already roomy; do not size up unless you want an oversized look
  • Knitwear and shirts: usual size, fitted cut
  • Bucket hat: 56 / 58 / 60, measure your head circumference
  • Bags: compare the dimensions, not the names
  • Conversion: men's 48 = M, women's 38 = S

All our pieces are available in the NB08 Jacquemus collection, in our boutique at 52 Cours Napoléon in Ajaccio and online, with size exchanges possible on new pieces.
