That year, Moncler down jackets equipped the Italian expedition that first reached the summit of K2, the world's second-highest peak, with the climbers Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli. The piece designed for this feat would give rise to the Karakorum, an emblematic down jacket of extreme protection and technical excellence. The Maya: the quintessential urban down jacket
Introduced in 2009, the Maya is arguably the most recognisable Moncler down jacket. Inspired by a zip-up model from 1998 (the Bazille), it adopts the signature pocket on the left sleeve inherited from the Karakorum. Its glossy lacquered nylon, channel quilting and fitted silhouette have made it an urban classic, available in a multitude of colours. For the brand's 70th anniversary in 2022, it was reissued as the Maya 70, in a wide palette of shades, for men and women alike.
The Montgenèvre: elegance in wool
More understated and dressier, the Montgenèvre is a short down jacket made in wool flannel, pairing down with a noble material. It too features the signature pocket inspired by the Maya, but takes a more sophisticated, urban approach — ideal for moving from the city to the mountains in style. It is a good example of the way Moncler applies its codes to more refined materials.
Moncler Genius: the icons of tomorrow
