Recognising Genuine Acne Studios: An Authentication Guide
Acne Studios' 'Face' smiley patch has become a cult item — and is copied. Face T-shirts, polo shirts and knits circulate as counterfeits on pre-owned platforms. Here is how to recognise a genuine piece from the Swedish label.
At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. The key points are set out below.
Why check the authenticity of an Acne Studios piece?
Acne's minimalism seems easy to copy — on the surface. In reality, the quality of the materials and the precision of the Swedish labelling make the difference immediately.
The Face patch and logos

The Face patch is finely woven: a regular face, crisp outlines, the patch sewn on straight with fine stitches. The 'Acne Studios' lettering uses its characteristic typeface, with thin, perfectly spaced letters. A blurred patch, a patch sewn on crooked or thick typography: a counterfeit.
Labels and markings
A discreet woven neck label, detailed inside labels (composition, place of manufacture — Portugal, Italy, Turkey depending on the piece) with a product code. Understated, precise labelling is a signature of the house.
Materials and cut
Dense cottons, even and heavy knits (Acne scarves and jumpers are renowned for their hand), clean cuts with considered volumes. A thin, dry material does not match the label's standard.
Price and seller: the warning signs
A Face T-shirt at two-thirds off is suspect. Ask for macro photos of the patch and labels.
