Recognising Genuine Hugo Boss: An Authentication Guide
Hugo Boss is one of the most copied brands in menswear: counterfeit polo shirts, shirts and belts circulate everywhere. Here is how to check a piece before you buy it.
At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. The simple pointers are set out below.
Why check the authenticity of a Hugo Boss piece?
A very widely distributed brand, a simple text logo: copies are countless, especially of the basics. The details of labelling and embroidery sort the genuine from the fake.
The embroidered BOSS logo

The BOSS / HUGO BOSS embroidery is dense, with straight, evenly spaced letters and a clean reverse on the inside. Copies show uneven letters, loose embroidery or approximate spacing — compare in macro.
Labels and the brand's lines
A crisp woven neck label (BOSS or HUGO, depending on the line), a composition label with style number and place of manufacture. Consistency between line and product matters: the Boss ranges (tailoring, casual, the earlier Green line) each have their own codes. Cheap printed labels or spelling mistakes: a deal-breaker.
Materials and finishing
Dense piqués and cottons, collars that hold their shape, firmly sewn buttons (often engraved), even seams. The overall quality of a genuine Boss piece can be felt the first time you try it on.
Price and seller: the warning signs
Cut-price bundles of 'new' polo shirts are the typical scam. Ask for real photos of the embroidery and labels.
