Recognising Genuine AMI Paris: An Authentication Guide

AMI Paris's little red heart has become one of the most worn logos in the contemporary wardrobe — and one of the most counterfeited. Copies of 'Ami de Cœur' jumpers, T-shirts and sweatshirts proliferate on resale sites. This guide brings together the checks that make the difference.

At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in the boutique before it goes on sale. Here is how to check for yourself.

Why check the authenticity of an AMI Paris piece?

A simple, identifiable logo and basic pieces (T-shirt, crewneck jumper): the ideal cocktail for counterfeiters. The quality of copies varies enormously, but none perfectly reproduces the heart embroidery and the hand feel of the materials. The history and meaning of the logo are detailed in our guide to the Ami de Cœur logo.

The Ami de Cœur embroidery: the decisive point

The heart with its 'A' is embroidered with a high thread density: crisp relief, even outlines, no fabric visible through the embroidery, and a clean reverse on the inside of the garment. On copies, the embroidery is often flat and sparse, with shaky outlines, or the heart is slightly misshapen. Compare the size and position: the AMI logo is discreet and perfectly placed.

Inside labels and markings

The 'AMI PARIS' neck label is woven (not printed), with even lettering. The composition label states the exact material and the country of manufacture, with a product code. A cheap printed label, an inconsistent size or spelling mistakes rule the piece out immediately.

Materials and finishing

AMI knits are dense and soft (wool, heavy cotton), and the collar ribbing is firm and springs back into shape. Even seams, crisp collars, no loose threads. A thin, rough cotton or a knit that twists at the first try-on does not match the brand's standards — the models and materials are reviewed in our guide to Ami de Cœur jumpers and cardigans.

Price and seller: the warning signs

AMI basics retain real value pre-owned. A 'new' jumper at €40 is almost certainly fake. Always ask for close-up photos of the heart and labels — our guide to pre-owned AMI Paris details the complete buying method.
