Recognising Genuine Dsquared2: An Authentication Guide

The Icon cap, the heavily worked jeans and the logo T-shirts make Dsquared2 a recurring target for counterfeiters. Cap copies in particular are everywhere. Here is how to check a piece from the Caten twins before you buy it.

At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. The pointers to know are set out below.

Why check the authenticity of a Dsquared2 piece?

Highly recognisable logos (ICON, the maple leaf, the '2') and accessibly priced accessories: ideal territory for fake pieces sold in bulk on platforms.

The ICON embroidery and logos

On a genuine Icon cap, the 3D embroidery is dense and raised, with straight, evenly spaced letters; the reverse of the embroidery is clean on the inside. On garments, the screen prints are thick and crisp. Flat, sparse embroidery, slanting letters or pulled threads: a counterfeit.

Labels and markings

Dsquared2 inside labels are woven, with size, composition and 'Made in Italy' (or Romania, depending on the line) and complete product codes. On caps, check the sewn-in inside label and the quality of the adjustment buckle. Dubious typography or a cheap printed label: walk away.

Materials, denim and finishing

Dsquared2 jeans feature heavily worked yet controlled washes and distressing, with engraved rivets and buttons. The cottons are dense and the seams even. Stiff denim with a uniform, 'printed-looking' wash does not match the brand's craftsmanship.

Price and seller: the warning signs

A cut-price new Icon cap is the classic trap. Ask for macro photos of the embroidery and labels.
