Recognising Genuine The North Face: An Authentication Guide
Nuptse, Denali fleeces, logo T-shirts: The North Face is copied in very large volumes, its iconic down jackets in particular. Here are the checks for spotting a genuine piece from the Californian brand.
At NB08, every piece is checked and authenticated in our boutique before it goes on sale. Here is the method.
Why check the authenticity of a The North Face piece?
The Nuptse has become a global urban uniform: fake versions are flooding the platforms, often with a mediocre filling sold as down.
The Half Dome logo

The Half Dome logo (a half-dome with three arcs) is precisely embroidered: even, parallel arcs, crisp THE NORTH FACE lettering, dense embroidery with a clean reverse. Copies distort the arcs or space the lettering badly — a macro check is often enough.
Labels and product codes
Detailed inside labels: model, multi-standard sizing, composition, country of manufacture, with a verifiable product code (NF0A… style format). The printing is crisp and aligned. A missing code or an unknown format: a deal-breaker on recent pieces.
Filling, zips and fabrics
On an authentic Nuptse, the 700-fill down is lofty and redistributes well, the baffles are even, the zips run smoothly with branded pulls, and the nylon is dense with a crinkly feel. Flat, clumpy filling, lightweight zips, thin shiny nylon: a counterfeit.
Price and seller: the warning signs
A new Nuptse at €80 is fake. Ask for photos of the logo, the labels and the product code.
